Grant funders that a Quaker centre for healing, rest and renewal in Lingfield could realistically approach — the Surrey ones first, then the Quaker trusts, then England-wide and national funders, tagged so you can jump to the part of the work you need money for: bursaries, the building, the garden, or simply keeping the lights on.
Start local, then start Quaker. Both blocks are shaded and sit at the top. Between them they are where a charity this size has odds that a national trust will never give it, and these five are worth a conversation before anything else:
The Quaker connection is an asset, and most of it is invisible to funding databases. The purple rows are trusts that fund on the strength of a link to the Religious Society of Friends — Southall, Cadbury, Reckitt, Rest-Harrow. They are small, quiet and almost entirely absent from commercial funding search tools, which index by cause and geography and have nowhere to put "Quaker". Claridge House is a Quaker Recognised Body, so the door is already open in a way it is not for most applicants.
Note also that being Quaker makes several Christian funders reachable — Benefact, the National Churches Trust, Westhill, Souter — while making the evangelical ones (which require applicants to actively share the faith) a poor fit. Those have been left off.
How the list is ordered. Surrey funders first, then Quaker funders, then everything else, each block by closing date with the soonest at the top. Rounds that have already closed sit below the open ones — most are annual and will come round again — and funds with no fixed date sit at the bottom of their block.
Where this comes from. The England-wide and national entries are the whole GrantFinder fund database as at 28 July 2026, narrowed by hand to what a small retreat centre could apply to. The Surrey and Quaker entries were researched from the funders' own websites, because they could not be in that export: it was filtered to a London postcode area, so no Surrey-only funder can appear in it, and the Quaker trusts are too small to be indexed anywhere useful.
What is deliberately missing. London-only funds, which are most of what a Hammersmith charity would see and none of which reach RH7. Anything requiring applicants to evangelise. Funds restricted to children and young people, armed forces, homelessness or a named other county. Where a funder's fit was arguable, it was left out.
Always check the funder's own guidance before applying. The notes here are a reading aid, not advice, and deadlines move. Tandridge Voluntary Action offers free fundraising support to local organisations.
| Funder | Run by | Deadline | Max value | Area | Tags | What it funds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tandridge Together Community Fund | Tandridge District Council | Annual round — 2025/26 closed 28 Nov 2025 | £2,000 | Surrey / Tandridge | Health & Wellbeing Mental Health Carers Older People Bursaries & Hardship | Grants of up to £2,000 for local charities and voluntary groups that can show their work improves the health and wellbeing of Tandridge residents. Funded by the Tandridge Together Lottery, which puts 10p from every ticket into the pot; around £23,000 was available in the 2025/26 round. Its stated objectives — improving emotional and physical health, reducing social isolation, supporting carers — are Claridge House's charitable objects in council language. The catch is that it funds benefit to Tandridge residents, so build the case around bursary places for local people rather than around the retreat programme as a whole. |
| Community Foundation for Surrey – Main Grants Programme | Community Foundation for Surrey | Three rounds a year — expression of interest first | Discretionary | Surrey / Tandridge | Health & Wellbeing Mental Health Core Costs Bursaries & Hardship Nature & Garden | The Foundation's principal open programme for Surrey charities and voluntary organisations, covering social welfare, community cohesion, access to nature, digital inclusion and employability. Applications are by expression of interest; the grants team then invites the organisations that fit to make a full application. The single most important relationship to build. The Foundation holds dozens of named funds and moves applicants between them, so one expression of interest is read against far more money than the programme name suggests. Rounds close roughly January, July and autumn — get on their list rather than waiting for a deadline. |
| Community Foundation for Surrey – Creative Wellbeing Programme | Community Foundation for Surrey, with Surrey Cultural Partnership | Expression of interest, then invited application | Discretionary | Surrey / Tandridge | Arts, Craft & Creativity Health & Wellbeing Mental Health | A joint programme with Surrey Cultural Partnership funding music, arts and cultural activity that improves health and wellbeing.Arts used for wellbeing, in Surrey, is the creativity and healing course programme described back to itself. Of everything on this page, this is the closest fit to what Claridge House already does rather than to what it might do. |
| Tandridge Community Fund | Community Foundation for Surrey | Expression of interest, no fixed deadline | £3,500 | Surrey / Tandridge | Older People Disability Health & Wellbeing Buildings & Repairs Bursaries & Hardship | A place-based fund for community and voluntary groups in the Tandridge district, supporting work with isolated older people, people affected by long-term illness and disability, the environment, sport and recreation, young people and families, and community facilities. Recent awards have run from around £750 to £3,500.Small, but it is the district-level pot and it names both isolated older people and community facilities. Apply through the same expression of interest form as the Main Grants Programme. |
| London Gatwick Community Fund | London Gatwick, administered by Community Foundation for Surrey | Check current round with the Foundation | Discretionary | Surrey / Tandridge | Health & Wellbeing Core Costs Capital & Equipment | The airport's community fund, which replaced the Gatwick Airport Community Trust in June 2026 after more than twenty years. Money is now ring-fenced by county and handed to the three local community foundations to award; the Surrey allocation is focused on Tandridge, Reigate and Banstead, and Mole Valley.Worth knowing this changed hands in 2026 — anything you read about the Gatwick Airport Community Trust is out of date and that charity is being wound up. Lingfield sits in Tandridge, which is one of the three named Surrey districts, so eligibility is not in question. |
| Your Fund Surrey – Small Community Projects Fund | Surrey County Council | Closed 20 Mar 2026 — reopening, watch the page | £50,000 | Surrey / Tandridge | Capital & Equipment Buildings & Repairs Accessibility Energy & Sustainability | Capital grants of £1,000 to £50,000 for community-led projects — building improvements, accessibility upgrades, environmental works and upgrades to local facilities. Over a thousand small projects have been funded since it launched in 2023.By some distance the largest capital money a Surrey building can reach without a heritage designation, and accessibility work is named explicitly. Note the route: you approach your Surrey county councillor first and they send you the application link, so the relationship comes before the form. |
| Your Councillor Community Fund | Surrey County Council | Rolling — approach your county councillor | Discretionary | Surrey / Tandridge | Core Costs Capital & Equipment Health & Wellbeing | A small annual allocation held by each Surrey county councillor to spend on projects in their own division.Tiny sums, no competition and the same councillor conversation that unlocks Your Fund Surrey. Cheap to ask for and useful as match funding on a bigger bid. |
| Community Foundation for Surrey – Crisis Funding | Community Foundation for Surrey | Rolling, no deadline | Discretionary | Surrey / Tandridge | Unrestricted Core Costs | A rolling fund for Surrey charities facing urgent cash-flow problems. Applicants have to evidence the immediate need and set out how the organisation becomes sustainable afterwards. Apply by emailing grants@cfsurrey.org.uk.Listed because the 2024/25 accounts show £235,512 in and £281,763 out. This is not the fund to build a strategy on, but it exists, it has no deadline, and it is better to know about it before it is needed than during. |
| Community Foundation for Surrey – Area Funds | Community Foundation for Surrey | Rolling — email the grants team | £2,500 | Surrey / Tandridge | Core Costs Health & Wellbeing | Locality pots of up to £2,500 held by the Foundation on behalf of individual donors and parishes. There is no published list — you email grants@cfsurrey.org.uk with your location and they tell you which funds cover it.Worth one email to find out what sits over RH7 specifically. Local donor funds rarely advertise and are far less competitive than anything national on this page. |
| W F Southall Trust | The Southall Trust | Trustees meet periodically — see eligibility checker | £5,000 | Quaker | Quaker & Faith Core Costs Energy & Sustainability | A Quaker family trust founded in 1937, giving capital and revenue grants of roughly £1,000 to £5,000 to UK registered charities, and distributing around £350,000 a year. Its four categories are Quaker Work and Witness, Peace and Reconciliation, Environmental Action and Sustainability, and Social Action.Quaker Work and Witness is a named category and Claridge House is a Quaker Recognised Body, so the door is already open. Revenue as well as capital, which matters more than the grant size. |
| William A Cadbury Charitable Trust | William A Cadbury Charitable Trust | Large grants: trustees meet twice yearly, next Nov 2026. Small grants monthly | £20,000 | Quaker | Quaker & Faith Core Costs Buildings & Repairs Capital & Equipment | Founded in 1923 by a Quaker member of the Cadbury family. Trustees meet twice a year to award around twenty large grants of £10,000 to £20,000, occasionally up to £50,000, and make small grants of up to £2,000 monthly. Projects with a clear link to Quaker values or to the Religious Society of Friends are looked on favourably. The largest sums on this page that are reachable on the strength of the Quaker connection alone. Two routes: the monthly small grants are quick and low-effort, the November trustees' meeting is where the real money is. |
| Quakers in Britain – grants for Quaker meetings | Britain Yearly Meeting | Rolling | Discretionary | Quaker | Buildings & Repairs Quaker & Faith Accessibility Energy & Sustainability | Britain Yearly Meeting runs two grants for developing meeting houses and for other project work by Quaker meetings, alongside separate funds for individuals, young adults and Yearly Meeting bursaries.Scoped to meeting houses rather than to the whole site, so this is about the Meeting House at Claridge House specifically. Worth a call to Friends House to establish what part of the building the fund can reach before drafting anything. |
| Edith M Ellis 1985 Charitable Trust | The Edith Maud Ellis 1985 Charitable Trust | Closed to applications — new policy expected 2027 | Discretionary | Quaker | Quaker & Faith | A Quaker trust making small grants to Quaker and other UK charities with a turnover under roughly £350,000, working on peace, justice, equality, integrity and environmental sustainability.Listed so you do not waste an afternoon on it: applications are not currently accepted and the grant-making policy is under review, with a new one expected in 2027. Claridge House would be inside the turnover ceiling when it reopens, so it is worth a diary note rather than a letter. |
